Text Size in eMail Messages

Sometimes eMail messages arrive in font sizes that are difficult to read. Can eMail font sizes be changed? It depends.

The font size in eMails received and read in a browser, such as Internet Explorer, can be easily changed. This type of eMail is called “WebMail.” eMail font size in WebMail can be changed similar to changing the font size on web pages – select “Page,” then “Text Size” and select a larger or smaller text size. Alternatively, hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the “+” or “-“ key or hold down the "Ctrl" key and roll the mouse scroll wheel (“Mouse Wheelies”) to change the window zoom and the font size.

The font size in eMails received and read in programs such as Outlook or Outlook Express (or Windows Mail in Vista or Windows Live Mail, Microsoft’s update for Outlook Express) can be changed with some changes in the programs. There does not seem to be any way to change font sizes in Outlook. In Outlook Express, and similar programs (Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail), there does not seem to be any way to change font sizes in eMail read as “HTML” mail (eMail with fancy graphics). In Outlook Express, the font size in eMail read as “Plain Text” can be changed by holding down the "Ctrl" key and rolling the mouse scroll wheel. To change the read view of eMail in Outlook Express, on the Menu Bar select “Tools,” then “Options” and check “Read all messages in plain text.”

The font size in eMails received in Thunderbird, an eMail program alternative to Outlook Express, can be changed by holding down the "Ctrl" key and pressing the “+” or “-“ key for both “HTML” mail and plain text mail.

Almost all eMail programs (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) have various ways to change the font size and type face for sending eMail.

How to Subscribe to RSS

When a web page contains a link to an RSS feed some type of an orange icon will appear on the page. Sometimes it will contain "RSS", "XML" or an orange icon with white waves radiating in a northest direction. In Internet Explorer 7 the "feed" icon in the Status Bar should turn orange. Click on this icon or the orange icon on the web page or the "subscribe to this feed" link on the web page and a new web page will open. In the yellow area at the top will be a "subscribe to this link" link. Click and the feed will be added to IE7's feed list. To see this feed click the yellow star at the left side of the Status Bar and then select the "feeds" tab. Right click the new feed and select "Open in New Tab" to view the feed in a new tab in the browser. To save the tab to view each time IE7 is opened save the opened tabs as "Use the current tab set as your home page" under "Add or Change Home Page..." under the "Home" icon on the Status Bar.
